Frequently Asked Questions
COVID-19 SAFETY
What are the COVID-19 safety protocols for in-person camps?

Full Sail University and Full Sail Labs prioritize safety for our students, faculty, and staff by following all federal and state guidelines, in particular the CDC recommendations on social distancing and masking.

Orange County, where Full Sail University is located, is currently considered to be at a “Low” risk level, meaning that no mitigation strategies like social distancing or masking are recommended. We encourage everyone to continue to make the best decision for their personal circumstances and realize many may continue to feel more comfortable wearing a mask.
We will regularly monitor the CDC Community Level tool and other relevant public health data and will quickly adjust our policies as necessary if the risk level in Orange County rises again.

Promoting Behaviors that Reduce the Spread of COVID-19

No

What does the camper need to bring?
Campers need to bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks. Please package accordingly, as we are unable to refrigerate lunches and snacks. We provide a morning snack (fresh fruit) and an afternoon snack (nut-free dried snack such as goldfish crackers), but it is always a good idea to send your camper with their preferred snack. Parents are permitted to drop off/deliver lunch to their child. We have a water refill dispenser for use and provide each camper with a refillable bottle, but they are welcome to bring a bottle from home. If you opt to not have your camper use a refillable bottle, please ensure you send plenty of water and/or other beverages with their lunch and snacks each day.

What safety and security policies are in place to protect my child?
There are several safety measures in place to protect your child:
1. Campus Security. Full Sail University Security provides service 24 hours a day and is an integral part of the University’s dedication to developing and maintaining a safe and secure campus. The Security department is comprised of full-time security and safety personnel who patrol the campus on foot and in vehicles. Sworn deputy sheriffs from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OSCO) are employed by Full Sail University to work on campus. These deputies patrol the campus in uniform and in marked and unmarked vehicles.
2. Employee Background Screening. Camp staff must complete and clear the Florida Department of Children and Families comprehensive background screening that includes a fingerprint-based check for statewide criminal history records.
3. CPR Certification. Camp staff are CPR and AED certified through the American Heart Association, the leader of resuscitation science, education, and training. Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are available in six locations across campus, including the mobile unit that partolls campus.

What happens if camp is cancelled?
Full Sail reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of the Program’s individual camps, virtual and online, due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. If a Program’s individual camp is cancelled by Full Sail, registrants will be notified promptly with a plan to transfer the enrollment to another camp or to process a full refund.
Can I enroll my child in more than one week of summer camp?
Yes, you can join us for as many weeks as you like. If you enroll in multiple weeks, you will receive a discount of $50-200 depending on the number of camps.

Can my child take the same summer camp more than once?
Yes. The required milestones of each project will remain the same, but students have the freedom to create and build beyond those milestones. For example, game genres are chosen ahead of time for our GameMaker Studio camp. Your child will be responsible for making the same type of game each time (such as a Platformer or Infinite Runner), but will have the freedom to customize art assets, adjust gameplay variables to create complexity, and develop additional game levels. In essence, your child can create two uniquely designed games of the same genre if the camp is repeated. Some students opt to take the same camp twice simply to deepen their learning and extend their project development under the care and guidance of an expert. If that is the goal, then we encourage a second go around! Our instructors are prepared to provide additional challenges and elevate project goals for students advancing in their pace and and skill sets.

Do you offer discounts?
Yes, we have camp discounts. Click Here!

Are there scholarships?
No, Full Sail Labs does not currently offer scholarships. However, we do offer an Early Bird Discount that runs several weeks after the launch of summer camps on our website. Refer to our Discounts page for details.

Is there an ability to switch camps if seats are available?
Yes, you have up until 2 weeks (14 days) prior to the start of your scheduled sessions to switch camps if seats are available.

Is the camp staff well-trained?
Facilitators are highly trained experts in their field. They have expertise in specialized areas in which they teach (Computer Animation, Game Development, Music Production, Filmmaking, Digital Arts & Design, etc.). They are also fully trained on educational practices, including but not limited to student learning styles, relevant learning practices, classroom management, public speaking, engagement principles, and assessment. They are also trained on all the hardware and software used in summer camps.

Does my child need prior experience with the content, hardware, or software to successfully complete a camp?
The content and curriculum of each camp is designed with particular skill levels in mind (beginners, intermediate, and advanced learners), and these distinctions are indicated on individual camp pages on the website. No previous experience is needed with Beginner-Intermediate camps. Camps designed for Intermediate-Advanced learners assume the student has had some (not extensive) experience with the content prior to camp. Experience with the software being utilized during the camp is NOT a requirement. For example, a student enrolling in an Intermediate-Advanced film camp may have experience making films with iMovie but has never used Adobe Premiere. If the student has some experience with capturing footage and editing a video of their own, they will easily adapt to the software used in our camp. All camps are created knowing students differ in their learning styles and learning pace, and Full Sail Labs is prepared to adapt activities and projects to those unique differences. Students are 100% responsible for their learning pace and project completion. They are provided a list of milestones to complete with each project, but they have the freedom to customize and expand their project based on their ability, creativity, and personal choice.

What if my child is too advanced for the curriculum?
At Full Sail Labs, we are prepared for all levels of learning. We understand and appreciate the fact that students learn and grow at a different pace based on previous experience, exploration, and studies. Our curriculum is targeted to the average learner, but we have additional activities and extra steps in place to accommodate learners who may require additional help or who are completing project milestones at a rapid pace. We also encourage our advanced learners to act as a teacher's aid in the classroom, assisting their peers with project steps and troubleshooting.

Can I enroll my very advanced 12-year-old child in a teen's camp?
We have a formal assessment program in place to determine if a child can age-up to a teens program. An assessment must be scheduled with the Learning Manager of Full Sail Labs. The assessment is a one-on-one activity with a Facilitator that allow us to assess the student’s ability to follow instructions, maintain the proper pace, and complete required milestones. The assessment takes 1-2 hours, depending on the camp topic, and can be scheduled either online or in person. Upon completion of the assessment, the Learning Manager and Facilitator will examine and discuss the results. The Learning Manager will make a final decision to approve and the family will be notified.

Will my child have to do team-based projects during the camp week?
Every camp is designed with collaboration in mind, but not all camps have team-based projects. Some camps are strictly team-based and that is clearly identified in the camp description on our website. For other camps, the collaborative component is embedded in the project review and feedback process. We encourage students to share their work and invite feedback in order to improve on the design and success of their projects.

Will my child get to take home the project(s) created during the camp?
Yes, each child will leave camp with their completed project(s). Students enrolled in a virtual camp will be building their projects on their home computers. All project files they create will be saved to their personal computers. For those attending an in-person (campus based) camp, we will provide a flash drive that will house ALL the project files. Most files will only work with the software in which they were created, so we provide parents the necessary information (software links, instructions for downloading, etc.) to enable their child to continue developing and creating at home.

What is the academic value of a Full Sail Labs camp?
Full Sail Labs is a division of Full Sail University. Full Sail University has been successfully making creators out of its students for over 40 years. As a higher-ed institution, we have a rich history in connecting students with Entertainment, Art, Media and Technology. Our creative approach to education provides an immersive, fast-paced, and relevant learning experience that mirrors the workflow and collaboration found throughout today’s rapidly evolving industries and pop culture. We extend the same philosophy and promise at Full Sail Labs. Many of the students we serve have already articulated career aspirations in media and technology, but are not old enough to receive any targeted training in those areas. Full Sail Labs nurtures their passion early and provides an educational experience that will better support them in pursuing their dreams.

Is there a Lost & Found?
Lost items are expected when working with campers, but we make every effort to keep this to a minimum. When moving between activities (classroom, lunch, snack time, campus tours, etc.), we encourage campers to keep their belongings in their designated areas and in their personal backpacks. Any “found” items that are easily identified (has camper’s name engraved or facilitator knows who it belongs to) will be set aside to return to the camper the next day or the parent will be called to come collect. Unidentified items are placed in the Lost & Found bin and are held for 3 months post summer camp season before donating to local charities.
