ITERATIVE GAME DESIGN
Iterative game design is the process by which a video game is proposed, designed, prototyped, and play tested before releasing the final product to the public. In this workshop, students will have the opportunity to experience a key stage of this process called quality assurance. They will play a pre-made game and identify the inconsistencies, errors or bugs within the game. Once identified, they will adjust variables and implement additional code to improve gameplay.

ENGINEERING IN MINECRAFT
Let’s have some fun blending gaming and engineering! In this workshop, students are introduced to Minecraft circuit building and engineering concepts using Redstone. They will implement the Engineering Design Process as they design, build, and refine electrical contraptions within the Minecraft world.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography is an incredibly portable, adaptable, and expressive hobby and skill. In this workshop, students will learn the basics of photography such as light, camera angles, and composition and then apply what they’ve learned to a series of photographs using DSLR cameras. They will interact with staged sets to practice specific types of photography such portrait photography, architecture photography, and backlight photography. If time permits, they will select 1-2 photos to import into a photo editor to crop, balance, and adjust contrast and color to enhance the image.

CHARACTER VOICE OVERS
Voice acting is the art of performing a character, and a truly effective character voiceover requires the skill of an actor. In this workshop, students will get to unleash their inner actor to bring a character to life with their voices. Through a series of activities, they will learn how to create unique voices, understand the basics of vocal performance, and explore how voice-overs are used in animation, video games, and storytelling. They will choose a character from a group of pre-selected animation clips, record their own voice-over for that character, and will use editing software to synch their recordings with the animation.

Level Flow refers to how players naturally move through a game level. Players are affected by the navigability of the environment and item placement. In this workshop, students will learn the difference between Good Flow and Bad Flow design and will create a game level incorporating Flow level design methods to create the desired feel, sensation, and smoothness of player movement within a game.

They will use a professional sound design tool to record and edit sounds for a pre-selected game clip. In the end, they will have crafted their own game sound effects and music.

COLOR CORRECTION IN FILM
When it comes to filmmaking, color correction unifies your footage and makes it aesthetically pleasing for viewers. In this workshop, students will learn to establish a consistent look for a film by emphasizing color, saturation, and tone. Using industry-leading software, students will color correct a pre-selected film clip by adjusting dark tones, mid-tones, highlights, and white balance. In the end, they will have unified their footage to ensure it communicates the intended aesthetic and mood.

STOP MOTION ANIMATION
Stop Motion Animation is a form of filmmaking. This animation is captured one frame at a time and physical objects are moved in small increments between those frames. When the sequence is played back, it creates the illusion of movement. In this workshop, students will practice this art of stop motion animation. They will storyboard their ideas, select their actors (objects), set the scene, and begin capturing their shots. Once their frames are in place and the sequence is complete, they will use a video editor to refine and embellish their film with intros, titles, and possibly sound.
