Manipulating Sound with Music and Tech

If you’re looking for a fun way to make some noise this Summer, look no further than Full Sail Labs. There’s more to Full Sail Labs Music Production camps than playing and recording music. In the video above, Natalie Jurosky examines how students can learn about sound effects through the Music and Tech Camp at Full Sail Labs.

“It’s not just, ‘Oh, come on in. We’ll see if you’re a musician or not…’ They’re actually getting to explore every media outlet that sound is in.”
—Natalie Jurosky, Full Sail Labs Facilitator

Students that attend the Music and Tech Summer Camps at Full Sail Labs learn some of the basics of sound editing, such as how to add sound to video clips and how to manipulate sounds to create sound effects. In addition to learning the digital aspect of audio, students can also learn about analog audio, too.

“I wanted them to see GarageBand in real-life…I thought it would be interesting if they saw kinda how [the audio] is actually manipulated.”

Ms. Natalie has a background in music, playing multiple instruments. One of her favorite memories from a previous Camp is on a day when she brought her bass guitar into Labs. Her demonstration began with showing her students how the bass connected with different pedals and the speaker to playback audio from the instrument. Students were able to witness firsthand how the pedals result in different audio effects and sounds.

“For them to hear the sound and then have their friends like step on the pedals to do the effects, it was cool to watch them all work together.”
