EQ is one of the most used and most important audio effects. It is used to fix, enhance, or deduct frequencies. A high pass filter only lets high frequencies pass through, so it cuts the low end out.
Typically the only sounds you hear in the low end are basses. It’s a good practice to remove a good amount of low frequencies on all non-bass tracks so they don’t muddy up your song and clash with other sounds. It’s a subtle change in what you hear, but when it’s all said and done, it makes all the difference in the final track.
